Scuba Fins
Scuba fins are an important part of scuba equipment and go hand in hand with scuba boots. There many styles and brands of diving fin, each with a different style and/or use. It is important to remember that when purchasing scuba fins to try them on with a pair of scuba booties, if the fins do not come complete with them. This will ensure a perfect fit and less chance of discomfort and pain from ill fitting equipment.
One of the more unique scuba fins available are the mono dive fins. The mono fin is simply a large single fin that attaches to both feet, most commonly made from fiberglass or plastic. These fins are used primarily for fin swimming in which a swimmer puts their arms together in front of the body and uses the mono dive fins to propel them forward. The best combination is dive fins with boots. While it may be common now, using boots with scuba fins can offer additional support, prevent blisters and scrapes on the back of the ankle.
The scuba pro split fins use a blade that travels the foot pocket and enhances the power with each stroke and is an extremely comfortable fin for all types of diving. Making a truly versatile and easy to use scuba fins, it comes in sizes for both children and adults, and uses a soft and comfortable foot pocket with no need for scuba boots. This can be a deciding point for families who save together, as finding equipment for all members of the family can be difficult.
A Nemo matrix diving fin is unique with a deep blue color making it blend in with the water. Offering a fiberglass composite blade similar to that of carbon fiber, but offers better durability for daily use for both free diving and spear fishing.
In general, scuba fins are a necessity for both the recreational and serious divers alike. For the recreational diver a lower cost fin may be a good choice but not for the lack of quality and dependability, as some will say “you get what you pay for.” When on vacation local dive shops will offer deals on diving equipment and may offer free diving fins for a first time diver as a way to make a decision on the type of fin they may life to purchase or is right for their particular needs.
