Physics Of Diving

Physics of diving is not something many people will consider when it comes to scuba diving. Diving however is based on the physical principles of pressure. The physics of diving include many physical aspects such as what it takes to keep a diver alive and mobile in high pressure, unnatural environment, or for those who do not dive will understand the necessity and important of and allow for the amazing experiences to be found while diving

The physics of scuba diving need to be understood to realize the magnitude of the physiological problems that occur while scuba diving, something some may not consider. Among this knowledge are the concepts of pressure, physical characteristics and basic laws that govern gases and effects on the body. To understand these affects will assist each diver in knowing how their own body will react during a dive and be able to adjust their equipment to best serve them.

Some of the most basic physics of diving are explained through terms such as: compression, which encompasses the part of the dive that increases pressure upon a diver. It may be referred to or compared to what a fighter pilot feels when “pulling G’s,” as it is referred to in their language. At the other end of the spectrum is decompression, where the diver ascends, decreasing the pressure?

Diving physics calculations encompasses many numbers, equations and conditions. For the most part divers are concerned with fresh water and salt water, because the weights are different and they need to be calculated differently when it comes to considering buoyancy. This can help also in determining the use of a BCD and how much or little it may need to be inflated. For an example of calculations consider pressure. Pressure is a force acting on a unit of area – pressure=force divided by area. Calculations also come into play with atmospheric pressure, barometric pressure, and hydrostatic pressure.
Physics of diving as it applies to absolute pressure is the sum of all pressures acting on an object. Basically explained physics is a method of quantifying our environment, where numbers and units are the primary means of explaining scientific information and further explained as a measurement is incomplete without its units.

Physics of diving are something that is essential and thankfully, for easier calculations dive computers, watches and dive tables are available to help in the process and ensure a safe worry free dive.
