Diving Instructor
A diving instructor quite simply teaches people to scuba dive, whether it is basic diving, or for those who are more adventurous, the more difficult cave, wreck or night diving. In addition, scuba instructor jobs may include taking guests on private charters. To add to that, a diving instructor can also teach snorkeling and reef awareness, as well as the administrative side, along with cleaning and maintenance of equipment. Dive instructors are helpful at resorts that cater to families, since many will have classes for children to teach them about fish, the various reefs and the adventures of the undersea world.
The Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) is the world’s largest diving membership and organization. Members of PADI teach the majority of recreational divers in the US and around the world. Diving instructors teach courses from entry level, scuba diver to master scuba diver and includes a variety of instructor certificates. By working with the diving science and technology the diving instructors offer “technical” diver courses, such as decompression diving.
The mission of the diving instructor is guide students through standard learning objectives that include both theory, which is taught by way of self study and review sessions with the instructor and practical skills development that are taught in confined waters with performance evaluations in open water. It is most important for the dive instructor to closely watch the students as their success in the water lies on them and is a testament to their training and the association they belong to.
One issue many scuba diving instructors will face is the importance of scuba instructor insurance. A question often asked is if the insurance held will be accepted when working with different agencies. No matter the agency training is being held at, the insurance policy will cover all activities while training and supervising, as long as they are within the terms and conditions of their specific insurance policy, this is essential and should be taken seriously?
An important step knows how to choose a reputable dive instructor. Often the best place to start is at a dive shop. Most often they will have a list or have personal experience with local diving instructors. They can recommend a school or instructor according to the specific requests, whether looking for a basic open water certification or an advanced master diver, as well as for those just looking for an experience while on vacation.
